Milbon at the Oscars

04.08.2022

For a major event like the Oscars, do you form an idea for the hairstyle you want to give your clients, or do they come to you with a vision?

It normally depends on the dress and the makeup look that they want to achieve, but normally my clients come to me with a hairstyle that they already have in mind. They trust that I’m able to execute their vision and exceed their expectations.

Do you ever base the look you’re giving your client off of their fashion primarily? How much would you say fashion influences your artistry?

I’ll base the look I’m giving a client based on their fashion but only sometimes. However, fashion influences my artistry a lot, especially since fashion also plays a huge role in my life and self-expression.

The wet hair look has been a major trend seen on the red carpet and for big events such as Kim Kardashian for the Met Gala. What is your opinion on this look and what products would you use to achieve the perfect, long-lasting wet hair look?

My opinion on the wet hair look? I absolutely love it! I think it's so refreshing to see a cool and modern look have such prominence on the red carpet. I especially love it because it’s a little messy and textured. I’ll always love the “it-girl’ look.

What do you do to prep and style the hair while making sure that there’s minimal damage?

I always make sure that I'm using the Milbon oils because they were all formulated to hydrate the hair while providing heat protection. Currently, my favorite oil is the Humidity Blocking Oil because it’s perfect for combating frizz all day while also ensuring that the hair remains intact after blow-drying and straightening.

What specific products did you use to achieve Sarah Paulson’s hair for the Oscars?

Sarah Paulson Breakdown: Deep part, slicked to the side, apply a good amount of Weightless Replenishing Mist on damp hair. This will help to prep the hair by providing heat protection while also giving the hair body and boosting shine.

Apply 2 pumps of Anti-Frizz Humidity Oil and apply all throughout the hair. Apply 2 pumps of Restorative Blowout Primer and apply all throughout the hair. Establish a deep side part in the hair -take a barrel brush and smooth out the hair to make it straight. Flat iron the ends of the hair to achieve a clean, sleek look. Apply a bit of the Satin Texturizing Cream 3 in sections and comb through the hair. You’ll need to apply it in sections in order for the cream to work its way through the hair, become pliable for ease of styling, and ensure that the satin finish is evenly distributed. Apply a pea-sized amount of the Matte Texturizing Paste 8 to define the look and make sure to tuck the excess hair on the sides behind the ear. Finish the look off with the Extra Strong Hold 10 to instantly lock every strand in place.

What specific products did you use to achieve Shira Hass’ hair for the Oscars?

Shira Haas Breakdown: Wet Textured, Push Back on damp hair, thoroughly apply Weightless Replenishing Mist. This will help to prep the hair by providing heat protection while also giving the hair body and boosting shine. In order to add a little more hold, combine a bit of Molding Wax 5 and Wet Shine Gel 8 together and apply it throughout the hair. Apply a generous amount of Wave Enhancing Mousse. We’re going to need to make sure that the hair is saturated with product in order to achieve that “wet” look. This product is key for achieving this because it seals-in moisture and hydrates the hair while also locking the hair in place -shape the hair into desired texture. Set the hair by diffusing. Finish the look off with the extra strong hold 10 to instantly lock every strand in place.
